Crane xr700 HELP

I have a 72 F-100 with a 390 4v. Just installed an XR700 setup with new parts from coil to plugs. The thing won't run, is backfiring in the exhaust. Compresion check is ok and no vac leak that i can find. The tech guy at crane said to bend the bracket for the optical trigger to get it closer to the shaft. He said this is a common problem with the xr700 in a Ford distributor. I did what he recomended with no improvement. Does anyone have any experience with this. Thanks

I know you've already done this, but just in case. Have you double and triple checked your firing order?

Probably have already, but have you made sure your timing is correct? It's just better to find the simple things first...
