well as a few might know i tool the 250 home to ohio from new orleans. the trip there was good. the trip back not so good. about half way home i hear a chatter then again and a few more times then it was gone. like 60 miles later the chatter turned into a grind. i puller over checked the tires good/the eng good/looked over the drive shafts rear good, short shaft good the king pins on the driver side looked wet no rain smell it 90w. crap go to move the axle and clunk clunk . up down and all around. i could even move the hub in the wheel well. so i drove 500 more miles like this just to get home with that grind of the hub. now its time to pull the diff cover off and upll the axle and replace from the drivers axel out. i just need a brake down if someone has one so i know all the parts i will need. but all in all we had a good time. oh yeah my 2 dogs got out when i was gone and were sent to the pound i had to go and pay 150$ just to get them out.
You're wanting a parts list? Is all you want to do is pull the driver's side axle out and replace it? I'm assuming this is the front axle?
I do know you don't need to pull the diff cover to remove the axles. Once the locker is removed, there are 4 bolts on the backside of the knuckle that allow the hub to be removed. There's also a big seal that goes on the axle that most likely needs replaced. Sounds like your whole hub unit needs to be replaced. Not a tough job though. The big seal on the axle - you might want to have the dealer install that one. I tore up 2 of them (at $30 a piece) trying to drive them on with a homemade tool before I finally broke down and went to the dealer. They easily installed it with their special tool.
You might read this for some further info: http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/nblube.html Your bearings are probably beyond being serviceable, but you should be able to see how the hub comes out. Once the hub is out, the axle will just pull out, may take a little tugging, but it should come out. No need to remove the diff cover.
oh yeah my 2 dogs got out when i was gone and were sent to the pound i had to go and pay 150$ just to get them out. Ryder
I had my dogs put in the doggy jail and they wanted about the same for me to bail them out. So I had my father go and adopt them he did it for 15 bucks and then gave them back to me.
well looked at all the seals and whatnot. the hub lock is junk wheel bearings junk hub assy good seal on the steering knuckel junk the outter shaft where it meets to the king pin is junk. but how do i knock the u-jount out? i son't see any snap rings. so all in all i need a
hub lock
inner axle seal
knuckle seal
outter axle
u-joint
I havent replaced my front shaft u joints yet, but id be willing to bet there is snap rings in the inside of the yoke. Some shafts have them on the outside, while others are on the inside. They may be covered in muck and grease, so scrape that gunk away with a little screw driver, and you will see the rings. There should be 4 of them per u joint.
the outter shaft where it meets to the king pin is junk.
Im a little confused what your describing as a king pin, as these axles do not have them, they actually have ball joints. The outer shaft only really comes in contact with the one seal, the one small axle bearing, one c clip, 3 spacers, then the lock out hub. IIRC
Unless you meant were the shaft meets the u joint? asin the ears of the yoke are damaged?
we'll just say that everything from the axle seal out to the hub-lock is bad the only thing i could save was the steering knuckle. the outter shaft yoke ears were dented and worn. the wheel bearing was nothing but dust
might want to check out the dynatrack hub kit and do both sides
I thought about the dynatrac kit at one point. It might be a good idea for people with larger tires, and lots of unit bearing trouble, but for the average person its not worth it IMO. Most people see 150k + on unit bearings, so for 900 in parts you get approx 150k more miles on your front. With the dynatrac you also have to re pac your wheel bearings from time to time, just more maintenance. They are also 1300 ish IIRC?
