Unhappy vibrations from drivetrain

<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">i have a 1999 f250 p.s. 4x4 c.c. it has 160,000 miles on it. i am experiencing some vibration from somewhere on the drivetrain. i changed the carrier bearing thinking that this was the problem, but not successful. the vibrations come at different speeds & go away when i come to a stop (or just about stopped). it feels like when you have a flat (or multiple flats). it doesn't drive or shift any different than normal. please help!

Does the vibration chamge with engine speed, truck speed or neither?

Do you feel it in the seat, the steering wheel, neither or both?

it does not change after it starts. it stays at a constant level. when i stop, it stops. i do feel it in the seat, but not in the steering wheel. sometimes it will start at 40-50 mph, & others at 60-70mph. it would almost sound as if something were rubbing the grips of the tires, but it never handles any different.

When the vibration starts, are you going straight or around corners (even sweeping turns on the highway). Could it be your rear differential? Do you have limited slip? Has your fluid recently been changed?

OK, I'm thinking 2 different directions for this.

My first reaction is to say it is a tire causing the problem. Try moving the driver's side back tire to the front (and front to back) and drive the truck again. If it still vibrate try the passenger side. If you move one side and the vibration changes or stops, it's probably the tire that is now on the front causing the vibration. A tire can cause vibration even though it is balanced.

Second guess would be your rear differential. I was leaning towards something in the rear end. A pinion bearing or the limited slip acting up, or maybe the U-joints?
