temperature sending unit
I have a 1987 Ford F-250 with the 300 and a 4 speed. The block was swapped with a carb'd block but I believe the head is the efi head, luckily the P/O kept the efi. I relized that the temp guage did not work and when I compared it to my other truck I relized that the carb'ed block does not have the sensor by the distributor. Everything I have read points to the carb'd blocks having that sensor in the head or intake manifold. Is this true, or am I over looking it? If this true does anyone know of an aftermarket company that sells a system to work with this truck?
I dont want to pull out this block because its supposed to have, and it feels, sounds, and runs like, it only has 62,000 miles on it. My other one has 135,000 hard worked, teenage abused miles.

Mine may be different than yours but on my '93 300, the temp sending unit was on the passenger side of the engine block towards the back. Had to unbolt the starter and swing it out of the way so I could reach my hands up the side of the engine to get a socket on the sending unit. Bring a flashlight down there so you can see the location better. Put some teflon tape on the new unit and screw it back in. You'll leak some coolant, but it'll be minimal. Good luck.
