Horn problems...
The horn went out on my 89 F150. It seems that the cruise control is also not working. From what I have read the clockspring is most likely the cause. Here is where I am getting confused from what I've read.
If I understand correctly the clockspring provides the power to the switches. When I press the horn I can hear the relay clicking. So power seems to be getting to the relay. I have also read that if it's clicking then it is still good. Is that correct? Or could it be the relay?
I just hoping for some clarification on this.
The horn problem is likey either electrical or mechanical, and it's likely at the horn itself. They are located up behind the bumper below the washer bottle or battery. Test the wires for 12v to ground, test the horn ground, and test the horns themselves for proper function.
Now check for power at the horn connection.
If you have power there, then pull the horns and hot lead them to see if they work. Just hook a wire to the mount for the ground and a hot wire to the power conector.
Now if you have no power at the horn connection before you pulled them. Backup and check the output out of the relay.
If you have power at the output of the relay, it's good. Start checking the wiring between the relay and the horn.
