edelbrock intake manifold
need some advice if i can from anyone. tearing the heads off my 351 in the next few weeks, they're in need of some tlc. (dropped a cylinder) Im getting them resleeved for lpg fuel as it is now a dedicated gas system.
ive been doing some investigation into edelbrock manifolds and am considering putting one on while the the heads are being done.
the block has a mild cam from what i can tell, breathes through a set of headers and a twin 2 1/2 inch system, 14 x 4 inch k&n air cleaner and will also be sporting a 16 inch elec. thermo fan.
my question to the masses out there, is what benefits would an intake maifold like this have? Im assuming that a few of you out there has done something similar to this to your trucks.
im trying to get as much info as i can, since it wont be a cheap venture (but working for a parts company certianly does help
) any suggestions?
cheers!
The edelbrock performer 400 non-egr would be a good intake to install. Either that one or a weiand(stealth I think) intake, and a good 4v carb. Either a edelbrock or holley, both are really good, but I think the holley is alittle better(IF you get it tuned just right), but the edelbrock is also very good(and it comes with a average tune from the factory).
The aluminum intake is lighter, and all the internal flow passages are smoother giveing you better air flow for more power and mileage.
Some people don't like to do this, b/c they think gas mileage is bad enough with the stock 2bbl, but as long as you stay out the secondarys you mileage could very well improve.
Just to add, if you want, you could get rid of the stock retarded set timing chain, and replace it with a double roller or something that will set straight up to 0.
The retarded set just makes the engine a dog,(part of the smog cra*), but get rid of it, and it will help.
