It is normal for coolant to puke out when hot. That is why they have coolant recovery tanks on these vehicles.
Check the radiator to make sure the thing is not plugged. Check the bottom radiator hose to make sure it is not collapsing. Make sure you have a good working 15 lb cap on the radiator. Make sure the fan and fan clutch assembly are working properly. The fan clutch probably accounts for 80% of overheating problems.
I had the same problem and it ended up being a plugged radiator. Grabbed one in the junkyard that looked to be a recent purchase in the truck it was in, and worked great.
But, like mentioned above, try your cap because if there isn't enough system pressure, the boiling point of your coolant drops dramatically. Also check that you have at least a good 50/50 mix of coolant/water.
My trucks came with flex fans instead of clutch fans, so there was no clutch to worry about.
Also, the waterpump may be losing efficiency.
well guys bypassed the heat hoses and there is no clucth for the fan on this 79 it has a new cap the hoses are new coolant is flowin through the rad i thought maybe i have bad fin on the water pump it was cooling great untell i reved it upand then it started overheating
anyone know where i can find a vacum line diagram and factory carb settings
You could also have air in the system. Try parking with the front up a hill. When the engine is cool enough, remove cap and start. It should burp out the air if that was the problem, but give it some time (without boiling over!)
the truck is a 1979 f-150 ranger 4x4 with a 351m/400 a c6 trany ford 9" rear and a dana 44 front axle a np205 t case i hope that all the info you needed thank agian guys
