clunk?

clunk?
When I am in drive and stop at a light and begin to resume driving I am feeling a clunk in the drive train. It only happens when I release the brake and hit the go pedal from a dead stop. It feels like it is coming from the rear of the truck. Not a major clunk, but a clunk. Is this normal, a problem? Any help would be great.

The other one I can't find, but there's sometimes a clunk from the transmission as some gears engage... Kinda' bad sounding, but not a bad thing.

That would make complete sense of where it feels like it is coming from. Would that fall under the 100K warranty? Also can anyone else chime in? Just curious if anybody experienced this.

I agree with the others. Not a real serious issue unless you let it go too long. It seems to be a pretty easy fix if you have the tools to do it. If not I can't believe it would cost much to have someone else do (other than a dealer, there hourly rates are usually a bit higher than independant shops).

I don't see the yoke moving like my 02 did, my 06 seems to have a lot of slop in the pinion gear on the diff. How much slop do you all see when you go from Reverse to forward? Meaning how many degrees does the driveline rotate going from reverse to forward.....Mine seems to move quite a bit, like 2/3 of a turn. Thanks ~!Brad

The attached images may be some help, but the text quality may have suffered in the process of shrinking the pics.
Mark the driveshaft and differential alignment. You want to reinstall everything to the proper orientation when you're done.
Remove the four 8mm bolts and drop the driveshaft. Mark the front part of the driveshaft and remove the bands around the boot. The bands remove easily with a little bit of twisting. In hindsight, you don't have to remove the front band. Here is the offending piece. Although the splines look greasy in this picture, there was almost no grease on them. The blue coating is almost worn off, too. I guess Ford put the blue stuff on there so it wouldn't clunk when it was driven off the dealer's lot. Put some bearing grease in the splines. Here is the female part of the slip shaft. I guess Ford probably saved a dollar by not installing a grease fitting here. If I felt better about my drilling and tapping skills I'd install one myself. Thanks Ford!!
