Hi Everyone. Well, I finally started changing out the wiring harness(s) on the '50 F-2 and I figured as long as I have the instrument cluster out I might as well re-hab it. I've got new instrument faces but I'm not sure how to get the speedo
needle off so I can install the face. Sure would hate to do something stupid, (it wouldn't be the first time). Has anyone got any suggestions?
thanks, Dave
Turn the needle counterclockwise against the stop while pulling outward on it. You can also take the odometer out and reset to zero.
It's kind of hard to explain how to do it and can take some time if it's your first one. I've done it several times with the first odo taking the longest, while I figure out (once again) how to do it.
Each number is locked in sequence by the metal band. You'd have to slightly pull out the metal band to release the number reel and then twist the rest of the locked reels until the unlocked reel resets to zero. Then follow the same procedure for the other reels. I forget if y
Even though the gauges are from a 51/52, the same principal applies to 48-50.

If you can't find the correct color to repaint the gauge needles, you can use what we did back in the 1960's. Women's nail polish. Just take a needle to the cosmetics counter and start comparing. No scheiss!
I bought a can of dayglow orange spray paint and taped off the needles and sprayed them. It turned out great. I sprayed the trim rings inside and whatever I could with silver. I didnt mess with the speedo readings, they were in good shape still.
