Thanks for all the help in the past with the fenders. My latest problem is I need a new seat or need to restore the old seat. The truck has been in a barn for 10 + years and coons and mice have made it their home. My wife says the interior smells like goat pee.
So I need a new seat. I found a new one for $150 bucks but it is an after market. All the springs in the old one seem fine and the seat frame is solid. Should I get a new one or look to refinish the old one. I am trying to keep the truck as original as possible and not go broke.
That's better than the $600 I'll have to pay to have my '65 done. Seems there is no aftermarket in the green colors for me to do it. However, for that I get a completely restored frame, new and better padding and my choice of colors which will mix with the green and white interior this time around.
I cannot find where I saw the seats for $150, I have searched for so much on line since i got the truck a couple weeks ago. I will keep looking, I am pretty sure I was looking at the right thing, but I admit I just started this process and really dont know what I am looking at when I see it. If I come across the site, Ill post it again.
I want to put a bench seat in my truck, but looking at some of the gallery pictures it seems like my floor shifter is mounted further back than most others so I wonder if I have the clearance. There is exactly 26 inches between the fuel tank and the shift stick in the rear most position. Is that enough room for the bench seat or would I need to move the shifter forward somehow?
I would have to check mine. My grandfather converted my truck back in the day from a column to a floor shifter and it shifts with plenty of room. I can take a pic of it and send it to you if it helps. He did the work himself and was a farmer not a mechanic, it may not be pretty and needs work but it works well now.
You would have to tell me how to post a pic with the thread, I just got started using the site, which has saved my butt!
I think you can post a link to a picture on another server or you can create a gallery here. I hope I can get a bench seat to work. My bucket seats are really bad and I never did like bucket seats anyway. I think I remember being told they came off a chevy monza. They were mounted on homemade mounts made with plumbing pipes and they're worn clean through to the springs. If I do find a seat I'm going to need the tracks and all.
this looks like my set up. there is 12.5 inches between the dash and the front of the bench seat. there is 4.5 inches between the front of the bench seat and the shifter.
Ill try and take a pic tomorrow and send it to ya. looks like you have room.
Ford bench seats are a bolt in deal from 65-79 for sure and some of the newer ones will bolt in as well. I have an 85 bench with 66 sliders in my truck. Paid 100.00 bucks for a good seat at the junk yard. Not original but it is all Ford and I am happy with it.,
I have a photo of my 65 with the factory seat but I cannot figure out how to get the picture posted. If you can get an email to me or someone can explain how to get it on there I have a good picture. But I give up for now!
