Exclamation Oil Cappacity question

My Haynes manual states that all gas engines hold 6qts. But for the last two changes I've removed 6 and almost 3/4qrts . My rig is an 04 crew 4x4 w/oil cooler above the filter. I fill the filter before install. I let her drain from pan and cooler real good. Even just over 6 and a 1/2 seems odd. But if its normal I need Your help to know. Also - I've checked oil level in three or more seamingly level areas and dont seem to be over filling?

I usually put in 6.5 qts. It takes it a bit above midway on the hashmarks.

You can run it with 6 qts no problem but it will take a bit more...as you've seen.

Thanks Monsta, this must be what I'm seeing. I do take it to the top of the hash marks, just below the upper hole in the stick.

Ford says for the 2-valver to put in 6 qts, and as long as it's between the marks, do NOT add more.

For the 3-valvers, it's 7 qts.

I used to get the occasional blue-puff on cold startup, but it's much less common, almost non-existant, now that I stopped putting 6.5 qts in my '01
