motor swap

.i have a 90 F250 and i jus blew the 5.8 motor i had in it. And i have a 93 5.0 HO motor out of a cougar and i was wondering if anyone could help me out if it would work in my truck if i were to use my upper and lower intake manifolds and use the computer off the cougar.

It'll work, but you'll be dissapointed with the 5.0 if you haul anything, it's about 100lb/ft torque shy of the 5.8 below 2500rpm. The 5.8 intake won't fit the 5.0 either, you will have to use the car intake or find a truck 5.0 intake... though I recommend you use ethe car intake anyway. The computer is another problem.. what transmission was in the Cougar? If it was a manual then it's good, you'll want the complete engine harness, mass air meter and ECU. If it was an electronic auto then it's no good. There are other considerations as well, but lets see if you are still liking the ideas at this point.

Another 5.8 would be the better option for a working truck.. but the 5.0 is better than no motor. The exhaust will have to be reworked a little, the 5.0 is slightly narrower than the 5.8, but all you really need to do is cut the Y pipe where it goes under the motor and take a 1/2-1" out of it.. assuming you don't have some custom exhaust that is. Engine mounts are the same, but the distributor is different, you'll need the 5.0 version. Exhaust manifolds are very similar but the 5.8 manifolds will fit your exhaust so that may work better.

It WILL work, but not well. The motor in that cougar is different than a truck 302. It's got a different cam grind to get more power higher up in the RPM band, great for a light car, but trash in a heavy truck. You'll probably wind up using more fuel with the 302 as well. YOu should be able to get a good used 351w from a junkyard, a lot of time they'll leave the engines in the cars that they're gonna keep around so you can hear them run.
