Well... i seem to keep having problems with this old truck of mine... My 1983 F350 460 7.5L ran good for a few days, again...
I drove it about 40miles outside of town to make a delivery for work and it ran like a champ. Hopped in it, it started right up, then it started to die out on me as i drove, i could put my foot to the floor and it would sit at like 2000RPMs and had NO torque what so ever. So, it died and i went back the next day becuase i figured it was an ignition problem becuase you could smell the fuel, put a new ignition module in it and it ran fine, TILL (here it comes are you ready for this!?!?) I blew a head gasket. My buddy followed me back and i blew oil the entire way home, it is about plum dry now, i didnt have any knocking so, i think im good on the bearings...
Any ideas? Could i just blow oil if i blew a head gasket? It wasnt blowing into the cyliders, just off the front of the head.
The plugs were clean all around so, no bad rings either.
My first though is you didn't blow a head gasket but burned a hole in the piston. Blowing oil is as a rule is piston. Now saying that if it blew it out the exhaust pipe. 460s aren't known for blowing head gaskets out of the blue. Now I'm not saying you didn't blow one. Again if the oil is blowing out the tailpipe I believe you burned a hole in the pistons all it takes is one. I had the same thing happen on a 302. I was running down the highway and it ran out of power, well I was having way too many problems with this engine and I held my foot into it and about 3 miles my buddy said you better get out of it you just blew a piston. The only reason he said anything was because it was about midnight in rural Nevada and we were about 10 miles from town. He didn't want to walk and neither did I so I limped it back. The next day I pulled it down and big as day light there was a nice golf ball size hole in the piston.
a hole in a piston, wouldnt taht be a constant problem tho? instead of as it ran for a while? I could let it sit over night then it would run fine, i have the oil leak from the front passenger side of the motor (the right bank), it wasnt leaking out the exuast, it runs down the front of the motor and makes a big *** mess.
