oil pressure problems?Try this first!

Have a 1986 F150 302 EFI.When the truck was cold, the oil pressure gauge went up about three-eights of the way.As it warmed up,the gauge would drop to low.I figured I was losing the bearing clearances....I expected the worse...but I thought I'd try a new sending unit first. It took all of 2 minutes to replace it(it's right above the oil filter)and now the gauge is where it should be....right in the middle!Hot or cold now,it's working great.....a lot easier than jacking up the engine!

Yeah I had a similar problems until I changed my sending unit. I think the old ones have a diaphragm in them I think. Not sure why the new ones go out.

Engine or material particle can get lodged inside the Tiny orifice of the S/U and cause a low pressure reading.

Smart move!!!!

You got it right that time Bud. Had the same thing happen on my I-6 except my oil pressure stayed a "0". Changed the transmitter and all is well. My motto is check the easy (cheap) things first.
