Dang...all these regs....sure they're for the benefit of the plant and everything on it.But governments are getting rich off of em as are car dealers and auto parts stores.......Maybe I should check florida law?nah......I'd definately look into your laws before you go tossing stuff tho....if you did toss it and got caught...just that much more money for the US to hand over to some foreign country where we'll never see a cent again.......
Chad, in the state of Ohio (what a wonderful pace to live......) if you sell a vehicle without brakes or emissions equipment, not only is it a felony, you can be sued for the cost of restoring the vehicle to "proper" working order. It's written into the law.
Oh I know. But I don't ever plan on selling my truck haha. It's gonna get passed down to my kids... if I ever dare to have them.
One of the main reasons why I hacked mine off is because the front cat started falling apart inside. When I cut the cats off, I cut the two cats apart, and pieces from the front one were packed into the front of the rear one. I got tired of the annoying rattle when I was sitting at a stop light. Now I've got a not-so-annoying "old truck" rumble when I'm sitting there. But if I get caught, the I guess I get caught, which is when I'll suggest that they go after the hundreds of other trucks (and cars) in this county who don't have them.
On a side note, does the emissions laws follow the year of the truck... or the year of the engine? I'm pretty sure I could convince those knuckleheads that I put a 1972 390 in 'er that I converted to fuel injection! Which will change me from a felon to a genious!
Hi, My opinion about emision controls on cars and trucks. The obd 1-2 are a great idea for keeping a engine burning clean and efficient. Cars today run better and longer than ever before so the system is working well .They tell you to fix a bad runner instead of running it. But systems do fail and when they do ,people just drive them with the check engine light on and plug up the converters soon wasting fuel and polluting the air. Leave the system intact unless you have a plugged converter .If the air pump is bad replace it. Don't remove the air pump as it is the first thing a inspector looks for . As far as the converter I pulled mine and had to install a resistor to tell the computer it is still there. Also I just left the air pump open and operational so it pumps, but not into the exhaust. Converters slowly plug up and fall apart without being noticed causing excessive heat ,loss of power and decresed engine life . They are the only part that I feel is unnecessary and a stupid Idea. I would love to test my truck to watch if it pass the sniffer with ease .My pipes are competely carbon free and the 5.0 is very fuel efficent and fast without cats installed . But I know it won't pass a visual.I say : "If It aint broke ,dont Fix it" The removal of all the parts will not produce a noticable increase in performance ,most likely slow it down if it isn't done correctly .Later, .Pat

Emissions are mostly under EPA, so the law in assachusetts is likely the same as elsewhere. They go by the year of the chassis, not the engine. Had a 74 wagon and put a 67 nmotor in it but it had to (back in '84) pass emissions for its year, 1974. Conversely you could put a brand new motor in a 66 Falcon and be exempt.
Assachusetts came online with emillions testing in 83, a simple curb-idle check. They went back 15 years. Meaning they tested '68s. Then each year became exempt as time went on. Then comes Enhanced Emissions and Safety and there is no more 15v year rule here. Just and always 1984 and up gotta go to the sniffer.
