Anybody having trouble tranny probs.

I have a05 F150 supercrew fx4 and sometimes it kind of hesitates when it tries to shift then when it does it rattles your teeth. And the other day i was towing my camper and pulled back onto the highway it shifted once then started to again and revved the motor before finally shifting. Anybody had this happen or heard of it?

I have an 05 screw also. Mine was doing what you described from 1st to 2nd gear. The dealer said there was a TSB about the problem. I had a small valve replaced in the tranny. the truck shifts great now.

hmm.. my 05 Scab does the same thing time to time. also when i go around a corner, or let off the gas, and then get on the gas again, i get a clunking noise.

is that normal?

this is my 1st F150.

My '04 SCREW 5.4l has gets the same "clunking" noise after yo ulet off and then get on the gas. It's almost like the tranny got out of sync with something and then quickly caught up again. If there is a TSB on the problem, does the dealership typically fix the problem without charging you?

not sure, but i'm beginning to think it isnt normal and should probably take it in. I'm getting the occasional 1-2 shift issue where it feels like the tranny gets out of sync, and then on-off-on gas issue where it feels like excessive drivetrain slack or isnt downshifting/upshifting correctly.

I guess I need to know the TSB# too. My '07 does the same 1-2 slipping. I was hoping an edge might correct the issue....guess it might be more than bad control software.

My '04 supercrew does the same thing when you get off the gas and then get right back on it.

Sounds like some of you guys are talking about two different things. The first being a hard 1-2 shift and the second being a jerk going back onto the throttle.

The jerk going back onto the throttle is just the throttle by wire. I wish they would go back to the old school way, but they don't. The TBW will create that jerk unfortuantely. One of the downsides to it.

If it makes you guys feel any better, I get a hard 1-2 shift in the new Tundra and feel a jerk in the tranny from the TBW.

Good luck with your trucks and keep us posted.

for me its defintiely not the DBW, there is a noticeable clunk when getting on-off-on the gas. (unless the clunk is a characteristic of DBW)

and my 1-2 shift is really soft normally, but very rarely it'll clunk pretty hard.

I had the understanding that you'd feel it jerk or clunk going back into it. I guess it would depend on how hardly it would clunk. Mine can be enough to knock you back in your seat pretty hard. The one on our '07 Sport Trac is horrendous, but that was in the shop for a faulty transmission so they had to reprogram that. Downshifting into first, the transmission on the Sport Trac would jolt so hard that it felt like we were getting rear-ended.

Ford needs to recall all 2004 5.4's

I have a 2004 F150 4X4 with the 5.4 which had all of the prpblems listed above. Last week the trans went out at 68400 miles. It is a common problem listed by the owners and FORD said they do not have a problem ! Price to fix $3500 - $5500 plus the $750 to pull the trans and check it.Here is the bigger problem, while I had the trans replaced I asked the shop to replace the plugs and belts. The new plugs break off in the engine and it is NOT FORD's problem. Google "broken sparkplugs in 2004 Ford F150 5.4" over 100 sites of problems. The only fix by Ford is to remove the heads the average cost is $1700 - $4000 to fix the problem! I have found a link for a special order tool to remove the broken part for $168.

I noticed a slight slip/rev when shifting the other day a couple times.
I was pulling my 12,100 lbs boat. I have been working the wife over regarding looking into a superduty diesel because of the weight of our new boat.

this makes me more nervous now.......

might be time to upgrade

A 12,100 lb boat??? With and F-150? Ah... isn't that about 2,200 lbs over the factory recommended for that vehicle.. I would say DEFINITELY! Plus I bet you have 400-500 lbs of extra stuff, probably in the bed of the pickup furtering your horrible tongue weight overload... SuperDuty for sure!
