I had the same problem with my '53, though not as bad. Mine wore notches into the cab, not the frame rails. The stock cab arms were pretty flimsy. After market cab arms are available and are solid units, not flimsy sheet metal style arms that the originals were.
Weld it up and smooth it out! Just remember when welding on a frame remember to do it in short bursts. You don't want to build too much heat up in one area at one time or it could warp things a bit.
... and keep in mind that the golden rule for beams and channels is never weld across the flange... which is just what this is. If you weld it, smooth it carefully and re-heat it with a torch to dull red or less, let cool slowly. I might want to weld a piece of 3/32" plate across it with 1/4"-long welds along the sides, instead.
