Frame wear?

Have any of you guys seen this before? Is it a problem?

I'm thinking if needed, I could just weld a bead across it and grind it smooth again?

Any thoughts..

Both sides of my frame are worn from where the cab rubbed on the rails...

I had the same problem with my '53, though not as bad. Mine wore notches into the cab, not the frame rails. The stock cab arms were pretty flimsy. After market cab arms are available and are solid units, not flimsy sheet metal style arms that the originals were.

Only problem I can see is it could pool water there and rot even faster, wouldn't hurt to run a bead and fill it in.

Yeah. Just weld it up. (And get better dog bone cab mounts!)

I welded up mine. One side had a shallow groove and the other one was just barely touching.

Weld it up and smooth it out! Just remember when welding on a frame remember to do it in short bursts. You don't want to build too much heat up in one area at one time or it could warp things a bit.

... and keep in mind that the golden rule for beams and channels is never weld across the flange... which is just what this is. If you weld it, smooth it carefully and re-heat it with a torch to dull red or less, let cool slowly. I might want to weld a piece of 3/32" plate across it with 1/4"-long welds along the sides, instead.

Well Said. After smoothing, you could also consider welding the strap in underneath so it isn't seen.
