I own a 2000/7.3/F-350/CC/SRW/4X4, but in Iraq I have the luxury of driving the 2006/6.0/F-350/CC/SRW/4X4 around in the International Zone. I have noticed I don't like how the new "dogbone" front end rides. I read that it is supposed to be smoother but i don't notice it, i have gone over some good curbs in my one ton at home and it was wayyy smother than the one here in Iraq. Have any of you other guys that traded up from the leafs to coils noticed a rougher ride or could it all be in my head? This really turns me off to even thinkin about trading up to the newer trucks jsut cause it is such a tough ride, any comments?
I have not had a chance to compare apple to apple with the only change being the leaf to coil, but I still think the leaf is better. There has always been something else different, like wheelbase, lift, tires, shocks or something. I can say that a long wheelbase is suppose to help the ride, but my brothers stock 2007 6.0 Crew Cab Long Bed 4x4 F250 rides rougher than any of my 2001 and 2003 leaf SD, even mine with the lift and tires.
I heard the only reason Ford went to the coils was to solve our complaints about the turning radius and not to help the ride. The coils also open up the problem of the death wobbles if thing get a little out of line.
It all depends on the suspension chosen. When I was at the dealer, I owned a 2004 F250 with no suspension upgrades. It rode pretty good. A similar 05 F250 with coils rode better IMO. But if you got suspension upgrades, like 10k lb GVW then it was rougher.
