A month ago, I took a part-time job working for a company that repairs the gates for gated communities. Electro-mechanical is my background.
At the very first meeting with the tentative employer, he shows up in a grey 2000 extended-cab F-350 single-wheel with a 7.3. I know immediately that this guy has good taste in vehicles. Of course, in addition to his company's needs, we chatted about trucks.
I get an early-morning email from him today, telling me that the truck cranks, but won't start, and could I come take a look at it. Sure, be right over.
Key in the ignition, turn to "on", I can hear the pump running. Crank. No start, and no tach. This is going to be simple.

My position is secure. He thinks I'm a genius!
Little does he know....... ;-)))

Please do tell. I might want to be a genius someday .
He's referring to the CPS (cam position sensor) . it's a common failure point and a weak link on the 7.3. The man's truck was doing exactly that and Pop got her done.
This section is littered with information about it ..
Yeah congrats. Work like that can get your name around as a "diesel mechanic." My uncle in fact called me last night, said his friend's 6.0 was having some problems... etc.
