Hey folks, I need a quick bit of info please.
On A 2001 F-350 SRW 4x4 diesel, When replacing the front rotors is it necessary to disassemble the hubs or are the rotors slip on?
Yea they slip on.Remove the wheel, brake caliper, then slide rotor off.You might have to use some PB blaster to help get off the rotor(spray the face where the lugs are)if it is rusted on and a hammer with a peice of 2x4.
redford,
The hubs are sealed. How do you "tear down and service" a sealed hub? I know you can sort of 'repack' the axle roller bearing but that's about all of the service you can do to a sealed hub. If it an't broke don't fix it!
How the heck did any of you get the caliper bolts to budge!! I used an air gun for 30 minutes, nothing! Then I resorted to hammering the end of my long rachet, did that for 10 minutes, NOTHING STILL! Yes, I used wd-40, still nothing!
My next resort is to take it to a buddies shop and have him lift it so we can get under it and really apply some torque with a long pipe at the end of the rachet, but I'll have to pay for the time in his shop to do that.
