do I have a 9" diff

vin# 2FTDF14G7CCA36522
this is a '82 F-150 ........ I need to know if it has a 9" rear diff....
there is no tag on the diff but on the door says axle 16...... any help would be nice............ thanks...

Does it have a removeable rear cover? if not its a 9". I believe they used the 9" until 83, but you have a Canadian built truck and things can be different with them. Its either a 9" or an 8.8" both are excellent axles.

I've seen 9's in some 84's, plus they're an easy and popular swap.

8.8 has a tin inspection cover on the rear with 10 (?) bolts. The 9" has the differential carrier that bolts in from the front. The rear cover is relatively smooth.

Not sure what code 16 is. It would be a non-limited slip, but I don't know the ratio. Maybe someone else knows.

Axle code 16 is a 3.50 ratio axle used in 83, then again in 85-86. Given the years it might indicate an 8.8 inch.

My 86 F150 4x4 came with a 9" ltd slip in 3.50 ratio
