A Friend of mine bought a 1978 Ford F-250 w/a 429 awhile back and now it needs a new starter, It has a 300-I6 bell, and 390 flywheel. What will work for this set up? (NEED HELP ASAP)
Thank you
jkt, I don't mean to rain on your parade but how on earth did you get a 300 I6 bell housing bolted to a 429 . Much less the 390 flywheel inside the bell housing?

You must match the teeth on the flywheel first, you can make the rest fit via adapters. I've heard a 280zx starter will work on the FE and they have gear reduction starters. I'd match the teeth then worry about making an adapter for the rest.
Also, I'd confirm that these parts are actually in there, the FE flywheel is large and the bell housings are very different. I think the tooth count the on FE is 184.
Bellhousing nor the flywheel will bolt to a 429 engine 460 stuff will. the only way you could is use two diferrent ones and than get a shop to make one out of the two bellhosings which makes no sense if you can get a 460 or 429 one all ready to fit.
As for starters use the 460 or 429 one you can use the FE engine ones but you have to swap the housing to have the two bolt pattern instead of the three to mount starter.
