I replaced my BFG's with the new Yokohama Geolandar ATS and I love them - great traction and mileage. The noise level is also lower than the BFG. Price was far less than BFG. Not that you could go wrong with BFG, but I have noticed their quality decline somewhat from what they used to be.
i just ordered some pro comp Extreme AT...i really like the tread pattern and hopefully ill be able to comment on them soon...TNT has a set of them and he likes them alot, maye he will jump in here
One thing I would strongly recommend is that you go to tirerack.com and read up on what is available for your truck and how other people liked the tires.
Check the tire ratings, see how they scored against each other based on actual user ratings. Read actual comments from other SD owners who have tried the tires you're looking at, see how they liked them.
I'm not real happy with the BFG Rugged Trail T/A AT, I rate them OK on dry pavement, slightly below average on snow and ice, slightly below average in the rain and average to good for comfort and noise. I'm pretty sure I can do better, based on what I have read at tirerack.com.
I'm still on my original set of BFG Rugged Trail T/A LT265 / 16 inch tires at 106322 miles.
The rear tires have less tread than the fronts. The front tires are all chewed up from bad ball joints which I replaced this past August at 95,000 miles.
The tires in their condition this past February got me through the snow storm we had here in Pennsylvania February 14th. At the time I was in Scranton Pa and by late morning the county (Lackawanna county) shut down all the roads. I traveled up and down the snow covered hills in four-wheel drive with no problems.
I'll be purchasing another set if for nothing else but the mileage I've been able to achieve with these tires.
