BFG A/t tires are great very little noise and wear like iron. a friend of mine just put Pro Comp Extre. on and they are a little noiser than my BFG's. I have 35's with stock suspension on my 1999 F350 SCSWB.
My suggestion would be to get the Pro Comp X-Terrains. They have a great bite in every condition. Everything from rocks, snow, wet, sand. They are great. They are fairly quite too. But they do wear fairly quick. I only got 18k out of my last set. If you do mainly on-road then get the BFGs. They are almost as good as the X-Terrains, but they are quiter on the road and wear better. If you do a lot of gravel road and mud driving the Cooper MT tires are a good choice. They don't wear as fast as the BFGs and the Pro Comps and bite really good. The only tire I will say to stay away from is the Firestone Destination MT. I have a friend that is a store manager at a Firestone store and he talked me into them. They are junk. The only thing that they are good for is looking good and making a lot of noise on the road.
How do the Pro Comps do off road? how do they do in wet snow and sticky mud if you had them in these conditions do they self clean or turn into slicks?
Birddog16,
I have only had the Pro Comp X-Terranins. They did great in wet and snow. I had them on my F250 when I lived in Arizona and they did great on the Phoenix city streets after a rain. Any one that lives in the southwest knows when it rains down there that the roads tend to get fairly slick and flood. The X-terrains channeled the water out of the way and had little to no hydro-planing and on just wet roads they gripped great. About 10k miles into the tires I moved to rural Iowa and in the snow they did extremely well. I help out my in-laws in the fall doing field work and they tear through the dirt, mud, and snow with ease. They clean out well and I never got stuck (which for me is something). The other thing I like about them is if you are on a side slope they don't slide down the slope like the BFGs and the Firestones that I have had.
I have the Goodyear Silent Armor AT tires on both of my superduties after doing much research on Tireracks website. They are awesome tires for my plowtruck which is also my daily driver. Road noise is almost non-existent. They also absorb 20% more roadbump shock over conventional AT tires according to their advertising, and I believe it's true. I have put 10,000 miles on these tires and love them!
I used to be a huge fan of BFG and still have a set of their older MT tires on my '79, but I believe in about 2000 the company went through some changes which resulted in a softer compound. I have a set of AT T/As on my '04 which I need to replace with something else soon. I've found the AT T/As to be OK on dry pavement with little road noise, hydroplane easily, poor in the mud, poor in the sand, OK in the snow. I'm leaning towards Toyo next.
I have the Toyo MTs and love them. Do great in all conditions I've had them in so far (dry pavement, wet pavement, ice, and snow) haven't had them in mud yet. They aren't very loud either so you might look at them too (much quieter than the Goodyear MTRs I had on my 99).
I went with the kevlar wrapped Goodyear SA PG's and it's night and day over the continentals. Running the stock 18 wheel so I didn't have a lot of choices. Great tread pattern, wild warranty, tire rack says they are the number two choice. I've only run them for a couple of months but these are some pretty d*mned good tiresl Downside is definitely the cost. They are not cheap.
Another vote for BFG AT's. One piece of advice is get a good shop to do the install. They can be hard to balance and are prone to be out of round. Make sure the shop road-force balances and if they can't get 'em perfect, get it replaced with another.
I will also say stay far away from the Firestone/Bridgestone MT's. Nothing but problems - wouldn't stay balanced, wore quickly and got really loud on the pavement after about 10k.
I had BFG Rugged Trails and they were the worst tire I have ever had. Terrible in rain and snow.
I switched to Nitto Terra Grapplers AT and I love them.
Got them from Discount Tire, which I beleive is a national chain.
They have a 50,000 mile warranty and free life time balance and rotation.

I saw those on Tirerack. I was surprised at the high rating. I realize you only have 10,000 on them, but how do you think they are wearing?
I'm not wealthy, I can't really afford to be putting new shoes on Big Red every 30k miles.
