Fuel Consumption When Idling

Got into this topic w/ the GF the other day when warming it up to haul a load. Does anyone have any idea how much fuel a healthy 7.3 uses (gal/hr) when idling cold and warmed up?

hmm... I remember some talk back last winter on the board that a PSD uses about a 1/3 a gal at reg idle. This might not be right, but for some reason it's stuck in my head.

And an hour is DAMM near what it takes to warm up, so all in all a perfect formula!!

Yeah, a 1$ is not bad at all. Thats why I usually just let mine idle most of the time.

I have found that it takes a long time to produce heat to heat the cab while idling but it takes no time at all to produce heat when driving. Interesting. I know it will idle for a long time before the gauge even moves but drive it and watch it climb. Even in NY winters.
