The tool should have 2 sizes. You want to use the one that is slightly larger than the fuel line. Disengage the metal clip that insures connection of filter to fuel line. Move the clip back. Basically open the wrench - metal tabs toward the connector - and close around fuel line. Press tool toward fuel line connector while, with your other hand, apply force to fuel line toward filter. The tool should apply force to the tabs that allow disconnect. By compressing the connector to the filter, you unload the tabs which allows the wrench to disengage them. Pull the tool and line off the filter.

I have found that the trick is to play with how much you close the wrench when shoving it in the connector. With my cheap tool, if I close it too much, the tool wont engage the tabs, but rather bottom out on the ridge on the fuel filter nibs. If I slightly open wrench while pressing it against the connector it comes right out.

When you get the feel for it, they disengage with little effort and in seconds.

Yeah that kind of kicked my butt the first time I changed my fuel filter. Changed it for the second time this past weekend and things went alot smoother this time.

Is there somewhere online to buy one of the filter removal tools? I went to the parts store and got a plastic set of little tools but I could not get them to work.
Thanks.
