I have a 38 gallon tank. would it hurt it, if I poured the whole bottle in at fill up. Or do I really have to get down to the nitty gritty and figure out the whole math thing, which of course is not my strongest suit.
Also what is the difference between 3 and 6 Cetane boost? I feel like a complete idiot. I have never used additives before, thought I would give it a shot. Any light on the subject would be appreciated greatly.
cetane is for diesel like octane is for gas. the new ULSD has a lower cetane rating than the old reg. diesel, will help with mileage a tad. but mostly is for the lubrication of the pump and such, also keep the tank and lines clean too.
I bought a grey bottle the other day and put 1/2 of it in with 3/4 of a tank. I also have a 38 gal but was skeptical of putting in the whole thing. You can't go wrong with 1/2 then the other at the next fill up.
you should always carry a spare fuel filter IMO..you never know when you will get bad fuel...
I agree. When I would change the filter on my older diesels that had a spin on fuel filter I would fill it with DK and I never had a prob. I have dumped all 32 oz in the tank at once before. I usually just give it a glug or two before I fill up.
When i bought my mule, a guy i met who had been running these 7.3 F350's for over 10 years told me to run diesel kleen year round in every tank and I would never have a problem with fuel... having been trained in Preventative Maintenance by Uncle Sam, I took his advice to heart and I have always put the Kleen in the tank. I have put almost 70k on my truck since i bought it, and, knock on wood, I have not had any issues at all. Now, since then, our friends at the EPA have done us the wonderful favor of taking almost all the sulfur out of the fuel we get. When they removed the sulfer, they removed most of the lubrication properties of the fuel. In my opinion, DK, or something like it, is a critical requirement for all diesel engines today. I get the gallon size and use 1/3 of it per tank, 29 gallons i believe. The bottle says it treats 300 gallons, I don't even treat 90, so I am running about 3 times more than it says I need to. I have had no trouble at all, and I feel about as confident as I can be that there is plenty of "lubricity" in the fuel after I add the DK. One other thing, using the white bottle in the winter, I have never had any issues with fuel "gelling"... In my opinion, DK, and others like it, are worth using in every tank.
