I'm thinking of purchasing a used F250 diesel('00+) and was wondering what to look for in the way of signs of problems? What kind of mileage is high for these trucks? Any pointers/information would be greatly appreciated. I've only owned gas burners up to this point and have no clue about diesel vehicles.
I've got 223,000 on my 02. I'd look into weather the truck is stock or has been upgraded with chips etc. Usually the one's with more mods on them are driven harder and will be more prone to break down.
well that depends on the price 200k is alot of miles but not too many, your gunna be running into some issues sooner buying a truck with that many miles but it does have alot of life left
wow that post pretty much covers it all. Thanks guys. would 200k be considered high mileage for these trucks?
That all depends on how may miles you plan on putting on the truck each year and how long you plan on keeping it. I'd have no hesitation about jumping in mine and pulling a heavy load cross country right now, but I know it won't last forever.

For some trucks, no, for other trucks, yes thats high. If a 200k+ mile truck is all that your budget allows, try to find a truck with maintinence records or buy it from someone you trust. Stay away from company work trucks with high mileage. Ask me how I know. Also, plan on a trans rebuild after that many miles. Good luck, and let us know what you get.
