Another Coolant??

I have an early '99 PSD. Had an injector sleeve go bad. When the dealership work was complete...I think they did a sloppy job and I had oil in my coolant system. They supposedly flushed it out and it still had some oil residue which collects on the outgas bottle. I cleaned the bottle out and it has come back again. I do not see oil in the anti-freeze as such but I am sure there is a mixture floating around in there. What problems will this cause me? I am sure my water pump will be going out some day, then maybe I can do a flush and get it cleaned out better. But until then, should I worry about the present situation? If so, what do you flush it out with to get this oil residue out of the system? The dealership didn't get it out when they did it. I hope I have given enough information...was trying to keep this post short. Thanks!

Coolant in the crankcase is a way bigger issue than oil in the coolant. It's no big issue, probably more irritating for you than a problem for the engine.

" Coolant in the crankcase is a way bigger issue "

If oil is getting into the coolant, does that imply that water could also be getting into the oil via the same path?

Petroleum will attack the rubber that the coolant hoses are made out of, swelling them from the inside out. I would get some sort of detergent flush and clean that system out until you could make soup with it.

Doug it could but not necessarily. You can have it go one way and not the other (such as the leak is on the preasure side of the oiling system it will force oil into the coolant but not the other way around usually) but this case maybe and probably is a case of some got in there while he had a problem (injector sleeve issue) or while they were doing the work to fix it and didn't get properly flushed out.
Water in the oil is usually pretty obvious if it's enough to cause a problem in that your oil will turn all milky real fast.

I don't think I have a problem with coolant in my oil. What I think my problem is...is a sloppy, very sloppy clean up after my injector sleeve replacement. After putting a new outgas tank it shows up on the sides of the tank. If you put a new outgas tank on it, it really is clean and shows up any little residue. I just got through doing a test strip...draining from the lower radiator...and you can't tell there is any oil in the anti-freeze. Clux may be right...it is more irritating to me than to the engine.
No one has said what I should use to flush it out with. If, when I do flush it out...what product??????? Thanks

I've heard of Simple Green being used with some success.

EDIT: Don't use Simple Green. I tried a google search on that and found a lot of disaster stories.

How about going to NAPA and asking?

I have been told cascade cleans the jackets and doesn't foam. stay away from foamy soaps. The cascade tip came from a retired Coast Guard Chief.

In addition to the rubber hose concern raised by Kwikkordead, I'm wondering if the left over trace amount of oil in the coolant has any adverse effect with regard to cavitation. For example, it might degrade the FW-16 additive. I always dip mine using test strips on a regular bases instead of just adding the additive like the manual says to do.

Cascade ;; never thought about using a soap. How much should I use? Crank truck , let warm up then drain.
I have used the test strips , and every thing looks OK. I'm like you ernesteugene I use them all the time . Think you know where you stand better . Thanks!!

I wouldn't use more than a capfull. If I had to clean twice I think it would be better than getting too much soap residue.
