grinding noise when making right turns
I am new to this site and this is my first post. I have a problem with my '97 F150. It is a 4x4 Off Road package , w/ 4.6 L engine.
In the past I would suspect a wheel bearing....What do you think???
When I'm driving and making a right turn, I can hear a rubbing or grinding sound. It sounds like metal, but yet not a squeak. I can tell it is in the front. It happens whether the brakes are pressed or not, therefore I don't think it is the pads or the rotors. I don't feel any vibration through the steering wheel or brake pedal.
I have done a brake job about 12,000 miles ago, so I don't suspect the brakes.
It is stock, so the wheels are not rubbing or anything like that.
Being a 4x4, is there a wheelbearing that could be causing this? If so, Are they easily fixed?
I've replaced wheelbearings before on other cars. All you did was take off the rotors. As you know, the rotors on these are just a plate.
What are your thoughts???
If not that, than make sure your 4X4 is disengaged. You may have to jack the front end up to see what is moving and what shouldn't be.
