Well, here's the deal, I've posted before about this but it wasnt as urgent. I've become very stumped and very concerned. 1984 F250, 460 v8 newly rebuilt w/ weiand intake, compcams rv cam, 0.030 oversized pistons, edelbrock 750 carb, but pretty basic. Been having it running warmer than prefered like over 200 degrees F. Took the thermostat out and put a flex fan in there. The rad is only 1 year old. I came to where I am now about 15 mins ago and the temp was about 230 degrees F and my overflow was overflowing. HELP! I don't know what else to do!
Do you still have the OEM fan and clutch? Did you check out the condition of the clutch? I'd go back to that, as the OEM fan is not noisy like the flex-fan.
Plastic flex fans are unsafe, and have a nasty habit of throwing off a blade. When that happens, the blade acts like a boomerang under the hood, wiping out everything in its path.
The original 5 or 7 blade fan with a viscous drive and the fan shroud will allow the engine to run at the correct temperature. As original, a 1980's F Series truck came from the factory with a 192 degree thermostat. Seemed to work fine on 1000's of new trucks, whose motors had next to zero miles on them when they first hit the road.

I think I gave the wrong Impression. I took the T-stat out to see if that was causing overheating. I had a BRAND NEW fan clutch installed and it wasnt keeping things cool. It didnt look like it was spinning fast enough and I just wanted to see if a solid fan would make any difference, it did, but not much.
I thought I posted on this last night. Right below Franklin2. Anyway is the water pump backing plate installed? I had a garage forget to install mine when they did the timing chain. With the thermo stuck open in the summer all I noticed was a slight increase in temp. Some of you will remember last fall when an overheating problem about drove me over the edge. It was a missing backing plate.
Make sure you have the correct water pump, the pump for a V belt engine rotates in the opposite direction as the serpentine belt model. Long shot but doesn't hurt to check.
