C6 shift points

Does anyone know how to make a C6 shift at around 5500-6000 RPM's at WOT? I'm pretty sure I need to get another governor or modify the one I have. Anyone with experience in this department please help. Of course I can shift it myself, but I don't want to have to do that all the time. I have heard that early CJ tranny's had different weights in the governor which allowed it to wind up more. Anyone know anything about that? Sorry such a long post. Thanks in advance.

I know that the cj trans had an r cervo. I know that these help to make the shifts firmer but i dont know about raising the shift points maybe a modulator will change that. havent got too much experience with the trans but i have rebuilt a few.

On mine anyway.... I can raise the shift point by turning the screw in the vacuum modulator IN...
The screw is up inside the `tube` where the vacuum line connects. I do use the `kickdown` rod from the carb...

jbhf250,
Are you adjusting partial throttle shift points of WOT shift points?? I was under the impression that the modulator only controlled partial throttle shifts, which is not what I am trying to change. What has your experience been? Thanks.

Hi, I think the only way is to change or modify the governor or have a transmission shop jack up the line pressures (not sure how they do it) John

My shift points changed in both areas.. I have the modulator adjusted to shift at about 4,000 WOT now ... For the drags this summer i`ll turn the adjustment IN about 1 turn to take it to around 4,500 (2nd to 3rd shift point!!) 16.59 best et 81.05 mph last year

I used to have a 72' Torino sport w/351C. I had a C6 with a TCI Transcat II shift kit with an adjustable modualtor valve. Like the others have already said, you can adjust the shift points with the adjusting screw inside the valve. I adjusted mine upto about 5000 rpm at WOT in first gear and that seemed to work just fine with no need to mess with governor. Hope this helps you out as far as adjusting the modulator. I dont think that you'll have to go tot he expense of changing the governor. Good luck!!!
Bill

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't put my modulator or shift kit in yet. Just got the engine going. Can't stomp it yet anyway.

The lower your engine revs, the longer it will last;-)

The lower my engine revs, the less fun I have. I built it so it would run well. It should still last close to 100,000. I don't redline it in every gear every time I take off. Besides a re-ring kit and bearings are cheap and that's probably all I would have to change.

It doesn't matter how well built it is, if you push it too far, something IS going to break!

Look at the Top Fuelers; those are some of the BEST built engines ever to run, and how many of those do you see blow up when they push it too hard?

Something to chew on...
