Serious Sound
While driving home from work today I switched my 2002 SD 250 5.4 into 4 wheel high,I heard it was good to do that once in a while to keep things from freezing up.I drove for about 1/2 a mile, never going over 40 MPH then switched back to 2 wheel. The 4x4 dash indacator light went off,but it sounded like ball bearings were being droped out the bottom of my truck !I started to slow down then BAM a big shuddering could be felt, then it sounded ok.I pulled into a parking lot & looked under the truck ,I expected to see a pile of gears but it looked ok.I put into 4 wheel low & drove for about 200 feet, stopped took it out of low & it started to pull to the left like I had a flat, then every thing seemed ok.I put it into low agin, no problem, then 4H as I was driving home ,no problem
Any help will be very much apprecated. This beast is new to me & I know nothing about a truck of this size.

You may need to pull your hubs apart and see what's going on. Some here have had issues with the hub bearings.
As far as engaging 4wd, yes it's better know when a part is not working then to discover it when you need it to work. I turn mine on at least once a month. I have even got to the point of using 4 wheel drive to avoid wheel slipage in fields weither it is muddy or not. 4lo is not a good idea on hard ground, particularly at any speed. For running in, I keep it under 20mph in 4hi.
