hello, i have a buddy that has a 93 f-150 with a stock 302, automatic, and he was wonder what is the easiest and cheaper way to get a big gain in power, he is tired of getting burned by the rice burner. any suggestions and ideas would be greatly appreciated. sorry i am not a good speller and am in a hurry. thanks again
To race a lighter, smaller vehicle with a better power/weight ratio, your buddy has no cheap or easy way to compete.
He has a small cubic inch engine, and a big heavy truck.
Minimal mods:
Supercharger, gear ratio change, free flowing exhaust.
If he wants to drag race...and win...he needs to spend money.
Power is not cheap.
hey. The fastest way to get more power would be high performance heads, intake and carbs, but haveing that small engine in that big ol truck isn't gonna help any.
I absolutely agree on the blower, exhaust and gear. A 5 litre in an F150 needs torque and it needs it desperately.My'95 5.0 4X4 AOD downshifts at the slightest hint of a slope. I would go with a Kenne Bell or Eaton blower, not a Paxton or Vortech. You want boost down low, not maximum airflow. This is not a lightweight Mustang.Build a Mustang engine and you will not get out of your own way.
Ford should have been shot for offering a 5.0 V8 in a heavy F150 4X4,and making it a $600+ option in 1995!!
