This is my first time using the ford brake controller. I was just wondering how you guys se yours up with your trailer. I have a 30' fifth wheel and towed for the first time last week. I am not sure if I set the gain correct, but it felt fine when braking. I am just looking for real word use set up, and yes I read the manual.

I have 2 different trailers I pull with my truck. One is a 30" bumper pull enclosed car trailer, and the other is a 14' utility trailer. For the car trailer
I keep the gain set at 10, and for the lighter trailer I set the gain at about 7-7.5 depending on what I'm hauling. The best thing to do is to play with the settings and see what feels the best for you and your driving style. I drive the same towing as when I'm not, so I have the "hammer down" even towing, so I want the most stopping power I can get on a heavy load. If you have the gain set too high, you can feel the trailer pulling you back and grabbing too much. You want it to feel like there's no extra effort (either by the trailer or the truck) to come to a controlled stop. HTH.
