The D.P TUNER EXPERIANCE!!!!

First of all, I got a phone call from D.P people Thursday afternoon, they received the chips a day earler than they thought and said that I should have mine by 1200 Friday! Made my Day!!! Friday, no work, so I sat around waiting for noon, well noon turned in 4,then 5, then, Well you get the IDEA! No tuner! BUMMER, bad mood, ruined my weekend! Well about 8 last night I hear a truck, could it be? No way, its late on friday night, not a chance. I get out of my favorate chair, look out side and I see the UPS truck driving down the road, I run out the door, yell at some kid down the street and tell him to STOP that truck! He does (GOOD KID) putting his life on the line for me!!!! I run down the road and ask the UPS guy, Hey dont you have a package for me?????? HU HU HU, PLEASE!!! He looks at me and says,
I put it on you front porch swing!~!!!!! JOY JOY< I go running off like a little boy that just found his pet dog!!!!!!!!!!!
The Package, Small, but powerfull, the antisipation was killing me, I run in the house with box under arm, tell the wife IM OUTAHERE, going to the shop!

After the 30 Min or so intall of the chip and overboost its TIME!
I start the truck, let oil press come up, first test, switch to high idle, It works!
OK, now my heart is really beating, I let the truck warm up, switch to stock back out of the drive way and slowly drive off, I drive around for a couple of miles (making sure the truck is up to temp and all is good).
I pulled over, staired at the little BLUE light, ok, lets try 80 econo, I pull back out onto my test road ( a secluded road out in the country, nice and straight,no houses, no trafic) Stab the throttle, holy mother of ??? this thing is faster than the superchip and banks stacked in 80, I blast up to about 90 MPH, that was fun, tranny shifted firm but good. Ok, turn around, switch the little blue light to 5 120 Race, Its on now!!! Truck idling in the middle of the road, I almost put my foot through the floor stomping it so hard, the truck learches about five feet and blows the tires away, GRINING FROM EAR TO EAR NOW! Lets stop and try this again, Same thing, tires up in smoke! This time I ease on the throtle and get the truck up to about 10 MPH and stomp it, SCREEEEEEECH and away we go!! 2nd gear, SCREECH , now were moving!!!
Again I run up to about 90MPH, HOLY SHEEP **** BATMAN this thing is fast, then the sky opened up and the rain started, fun time is over, this truck wont hook up on dry pavement let alone a wet road, so I will go out today and play with 140 SMOKE and report later!!!!!!!!!!!!
THe Tuner is eveything I had hoped for and more, I cant wait until the roads dry up this morning, some pavement is going to suffer!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rich

Wow, you were really hyper i could tell. Jody should send out a photographer to take pictures of his customer's faces when they take their new truck out for their first test drive.

My friend Ben, who has the same year truck as me, drove my truck and described it like being on a freaking carnival ride. He called me as he was driving his truck home and asked for Jody's #.

I was reading your post and thinking....
I have had my chip in for 3 months now..and still get that giddy, nervous, excited, RUSH every single time I punch the throttle!

Does it ever go away?...or is my wife right and I just never grew up and love my truck more than her, and I don't ever let her drive it, and why do I have to spend so much $ on a truck when I could spend it on her, and if it wasn't for $3 gallon fuel I would never be home and ......blah...blah....

Oh ...sorry guys...got off track there

Good story Rich...Have FUN!!

That is a cool write up.

I felt like I was in the cab with him.

Congratulations on the new toy.

Wink

After a little more pavement and tire torture this morning this is what I have decided.
I better get a shift kit/valve body or something other than just the transmision tune. 120 and 140 are not to kind on the tranny, It dosent slip but it doesent always shift firm like it should, so until I decide what I should do I better lay off the extreem levels for awhile.
What do you guys recomend other than a BTS tranny?
Thanks
Rich
Man I LOVE THAT truck.

Just the BTS valve body (225 + 150 core) that is tuned to the chip is an excellent improvement.

Is the valve body difficult to put in? I am not a transmision mechanic by no means?

Very easy, drain the fluid, drop the pan, take out 10 or so bolts holding in the VB and then reverse the operation to install.

Guzzle has a very good write-up http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/bts.html
