I posted on this a while ago & then followed up with the local Ford dealer & wanted some addt'l info.
I have an '04 F250 4X4 I've had since new. One of my manual hubs says "lock/free" & the other says "auto/free." I have a manual level to shift info 4wd (vs electronic). My understanding is that I both hubs should say "free/lock." I am coming up on my warranty in December & I asked the Ford dealer over the phone if at my next oil change could they swap the wrong hub for the correct one. I was told I needed to notice build defects w/in 90 days of vehicle delivery. I searched my warranty booklet & I noticed a section where it talks about noticing body dmg w/in a certain amout of time, but not a build defect. Should I push it w/ Ford or just not worry about it? I'm assuming the "auto/lock" hub performs the same function as the "free/lock" hub. I'm pretty **** so I'd like them to be the same...
Contact Ford Customer service directly. Tell them you never noticed until now but feel it should be corrected. they can make the dealer replace it if it goes in your favor. I am not sure how an error would take place after watching how these trucks are made, but hey, maybe.
Any time a dealer won't do something under warranty that yout think should be covered GET IT IN WRITING. Then go from there. They are probably right though. They have no way to know you didn't swap the dial.
