I took my 2000 SD to the local Diesel FIX-IT guy to find out why this truck is starting to sound like hell in the mornings, afternoons and nights.. When I first start is, it runs on about 6 holes before it gets all of them going. I changed the oil a week ago and BOOM.. that fixed it for 3 whole days and then back to the symptoms.
They pulled codes and found NOTHING... something about exhaust pressure readings being bad but otherwise.. NADA...
He said it would throw a little white smoke when he FLOORS IT !!, which I never do.
He also said it had FOAMY oil after it was floored and then checked.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone out there? He's telling me to change the high pressure oil pump..
I checked the oil pressure switch on the side behind the alternator, cleaned it up and re-installed.. That made NO diff..
Did he read ICP pressure & IPR % while he was in there with the scanner... Eot As it compares to ambient air temp....It is possible you may need a synthetic oil...try unpluugging the ICP connector the next time it is acting up & see if it improves....
