I just broke my outside driver's side door handle (don't know yet what happened-I'll tear it apart this weekend) and I was thinking wtf? Why not just eliminate the handles altogether? I'd gain keyless entry which would be great. Especially since most people who climb in my truck have a hard time getting the required leverage on the handle to open the door anyway (can't reach to lift).
With a kit that has poppers I'd just have to hit the button and the door would open. I'd also not have to lock the truck anymore (driver's side lock is kinda screwy anyway).
I'd love to see a picture of this done on someone's 70's ford. And for any of you in the know, what company makes a good kit, where to get them and how hard are they to install?
You mean like this? This is the only pic I have right now as the truck is not painted yet, but this is the door shaved....Autoloc, Spal, and many other make the shaved kits, priced anywhere from $75 up. Be sure to get the poppers to pop open the door. I completed mine by using a donor door to get the exact radius filler panel and then just transcribed and cut out handle area, and welded in donor panel. I had to replace some of the bottom section due to rust through and also removed and welded up the rocker panel moulding holes...thus the filler at the bottom. You will also notice I welded up the big honkin holes left by the huge 3-point mirrors. If you look real close you will notice I haven't even put the filler over the shaved part yet when I took this photo sometime back. I have primer on the doors now and it is completely smooth.
