292 to 302
I'm swapping a 302/c4 into my '64 F-250 instead of the 292/granny tranny that's in there now... No offence Y-block people, it'll be going back in, I just need the truck ASAP and it (292) needs a rebuild.
I'm getting the crossmembers I need to mount the 302/c4, but my question is, what can I use for a driveshaft? Will my old one work, or do I need something different? I'll just use a floor shifter to cover that point. Can I wire in an electronic ignition? I'll have exhaust fabbed up to fit. What is the 3rd gear ratio for a C-4 tranny? I ask because I was wondering if I'll have a problem hitting freeway speeds..?
Heres some info on the truck:
2wd 1964 F-250; 4.56:1 D-60 rear axle; 285/95 R16 tires; and for now a 292 and T-18 tranny.

[font size="1" color="#FF0000"]LAST EDITED ON 21-Aug-01 AT 02:35 AM (EST)[/font][p]I happened to have a driveshaft that fit my 53, and you may be able to hunt around and find one that will fit, especially if you don't bolt down the engine/trans right away to give you a little leeway forward and back. You can go to Napa and they have an assortment of u-joints that will mate one size driveshaft joint to a different rearend size joint. The three speed automatics have a 1:1 ratio in 3rd. That 4.56 is going to kill you. You will never want to go over 55 for fear of blowing up the 302, though you do have a tall tire in the back.

I've been to 65-70 several times with the 292 and a 1:1 4th gear ratio... Scary, but it got there
Any more real quick? within the next 2 weeks and 2 days we're moving and I lose my ISP for 90 days or so...

You are trying to swap drivetrains and move at the same time? Whew! I don't envy you! Or maybe you are like me, and having to move all your old cars and junk while moving the house stuff too. I moved 1 year ago. I hate moving.

Yup; I'm trying to consolidate 2 cars and the '64 into one nice truck; as well as dispose of all kinds of leftover garbage (cracked fan shrouds, leaky radiators etc...)
