Does anyone know what years a 89 5spd from a 2wd will fit. This is the Mazda trans from behind a 300 I6, also any difference with it and the v8 models?
88 -96. It has to be from a 4.9 I-6. Mine went bad last week (a 95). Went to a wrecking yard and got one, an 88 it was no good went back got another one it's not great but it works. Check Ebay they sell them for $750 rebuilt. Wrecking yard charged me $450. I bought an overhaul manual and I am going to rebuild my old one, and start rebuilding them on the side.
I don,t know exactly what all the differences are, but one is which side the starter is on. I have been doing reasearch on this tranny for over a week now. Thats one of the questions I was asked "which side the starter was on?". Internaly they are all the same until you get to 98 and up, and then it's only 5th/rev. syncros etc.
The 5spd I have is from a 89 and pass side starter like a V8. I was origianally going to use it behind a 5.0 but lost interest so am trying to sell the truck and parts. I just didnt want to say it would fit a v8 if it wouldnt and misrepresent. I know the block plate fit behind the 5.0 and the bellhousing configuration is the same. Thats why I assumed it would fit the v8
It will fit the 300 six, 302 and 351W V8's. It is a direct fit for 88-91 because it has a speedometer drive in the tailshaft. As long as that hole is plugged, it should also work fine in the 92-96 trucks as well.
