Header Coatings

Just got a set of FMS stainless steel headers for my 95 F-150/5.0 and would like to have them ceramic coated. Does anyone know of any shops in southern or central California that does this? Any guess on prices? Thanks!

I've heard of many people sending theirs out to JetHot. I've heard some good things about them and how long they last, but I think most everyone has to ship them out. If you just got the headers, I'd save the box and search the internet for header coating using www.dogpile.com or www.google.com

Look in the yellow pages under powder coating. Basically you want a ceramic coat that won't turn under heat and is guaranteed. I have heard of some turning a flat grey and needing to be polished. I had HPC do a manifold, but my headers were done by a company in Belmont CA. No difference as far as I can see. Headers have been on for over a year and no color change or greying. This is on a 429 and the center exhaust gets very hot.

If you ant the name of the Belmont company e mail me and I'll find it and send it back to you.

Powder coating will not stand up over time. It is not designed for the extreme heat that headers see. Your best bet is Jet-Hot. Info can be found at their website, www.jet-hot.com. They quoted me $285 for coating a set of Stan's headers for a FE.

Karl, I agree, but some of the powder coating companys also do ceramic coat, or they ship them out for you. That is the key difference in the products. HPC is good, a little higher with shipping, but good service and products.
