Small problem
I have a small problem with my 05 f250, cc,sb 6.0psd. From reading the posts, I believed I might have a small stiction problem, and planned on taking it to the dealer for it next week for evaluation. However, during the past two days I seemed to have developed a new problem.
After the truck sat for 16 hours or so I went to start it up and it sputtered immediately after the engine seemed to catch and died out. It started fine with the second try and I didn't think anything more about it.
After the truck came up to operating temp (an hour later - city driving) it dropped to idle speed and was unaffected by the pedal. I would lower the pedal and nothing would happen. I coasted to the side of the road and let the truck idle for a minute. It sputtered and died out. It took 5 tries to get it started again and it seemd to be a little slluggish after that.
The following day it wouldn't start right up and cut out again. The rpms dropped to idle speed and stayed there for about 4 minutes. After 4 minutes it slowly came back up to the about 700 rpms, at which time I drove it home without further incident.
I have about 95k on the truck and bought it used. I guess my questions would be ...
How do I know if I filled up with bad fuel?
I seem to hear the turbo whistle more prominently than before...should I have that checked as well?
I am planning on dropping the truck off at Lindsay Ford in Maryland, off Viers Mill Road this Tuesday and leaving it for a couple of days. Any suggestions would be helpfull
This is my first pickup and diesel. I bought it used with high mileage becuse it was what I could afford. Although I miss my rovers, I have to admit I'm getting pretty attached and fond of this truck. I have a great amount of respect for the knowlege base here and looking forward to any suggestions.
Thanks,
Mac
Here is the procedure from the Tech Folder sticky: http://home.austin.rr.com/sbv1/Procedures/fuel%20filter%20change.htm

I've been fueling in the same place for a while. Its right on Conn. Ave NW Washington DC and it carries 40 cetaine. I then add the ford motorcraft cetaine boost that I pick up from the dealer in Maryland. I took the truck out this morning and it ran fine. I canceled a trip with the family because I don't want to take a chance being stranded on the Jersey Turnpike. Whats a HPOP? I'll have to do a search...lol
Thanks again
Mac
It suddenly hit me that I've put about 15k on the truck since I've bought it. I will definately have the filters replaced since they are suspect with the 15k on them. I should try to figure out a maintenance schedule to this truck.
As for the leak at the HPOP, would I be able to find leaking fluid if I crawled under the truck to look? More for the learning experience than anything else.
Also, I forgot to mention that the truck is still under the warranty for the engine, although I don't trust the dealer to be completely forthright with a problem that may be developing. Does anyone have a dealer they could reccomend near Washington DC? At least till the truck is out of warranty...

Just another option, I get my filters (fuel, oil, and air) here: www.oilguard.com

I went out a little while ago and tried to start the truck up. It would crank but not start. I wanted to move it off the street into the driveway. I took the opportunity to crawl under the truck to take a look. I noticed what appeared to be oil slightly seeping around the rim of the oil pan in front of (I think) the bell housing part of the transmission. Would the HPOP leave its mark here?
What are the signs of a HPOP going bad? How could I tell the difference between the HPOP or the turbo going bad. I called the dealer near me to find out the cost of the parts and was told that the turbo goes for about 1900 and the HPOP goes for about 1000. This doesn't include labor.
...Shades of owning an old range rover....lol

I will replace the filters first and see if the problem is solved.

Good luck
Its good to have a resource like this to help out. I don't feel as if I'm at the mercy of the dealer with the information and help I get here. I really appreciate it. Thanks
I just dropped my truck off at the dealership and it's amazing the difference in the attitude of the service writer once it becomes clear that we're interested and knowledgable in whats being documented during the writeup.
