I just got this 1963 F100 and it is my first Ford truck. I have had a couple of people tell me "This truck has the wrong bed on it" How can I find out for sure?
I can't figure out how to post a pic here "YET" so you can see the pics at www.azlans.com/fordtruck
There has been discussion here before about whether or not this bed was used at all in 1961, with the exception of 4x4s and F350. The discussion in the past questioned the bed's use on non 4x4s for 1961. Ford banked on the unibody carrying its styleside needs, but abandoned that idea after it proved unsuitable for 4x4 use and its general lack of appeal with buyers. If you look at production numbers, you'll see higher flareside numbers for 1961 and then progressively lower numbers as the years went on. When Ford lengthened the wheel base for 1964, the matching styleside bed was made available. The 57-60 styleside bed was used on:
1961-1965 F100 4x4
1961-1966 F250 4x4
1961-1966 F350
1962-1963 F100 and F250 4x2
1961 F100 and F250 4x2 ??????????
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has a bonafide 1961 4x2 with this bed. Even more interesting would be someone who has a genuine 1961 unibody 4x4, if such a thing ever existed.
I'd like to see a picture of a 1963 F100 Flareside. As I said I'm new to Ford and I'm looking for a site that has a Historical display of all the years of trucks. It is very interesting to me how the design of the trucks changed over the years. I looked at new trucks the other day and they just don't do it for me. Maybe I could buy a new one, cut the cab and bed off and put an old one on it. I'd then have the best of both worlds. <GRIN>
I have yet to come accross a conventional styleside pick up with the 57 to 60 bed in 2 wheel drive for 61. Never found one. All i have ever seen or parted were unis or flairsides. for 61 di ford possibly get caught pants down with uni production?
I have seen and parted 62s both long and short bed with this bed but never a 61.
Might be a good poll question to find some 61s with this bed.

Notice the Ford production figures I listed above. 255 total "Styleside" 4X4's were produced in 1961. What exactly were they? Special ordered for one large business or government agency? Were they: Unibodies or the 1957/60 Styleside Beds? Mebbe they were Typos.

1961 F250 production figures show: 10,008 Uni Bodied Pickups, and 149 "Styleside" 4X4 Pickups.
1961 F350 production figures show: 1,191 Styleside Pickups.
Total 1961 production of "Styleside" Pickups both 2 and 4WD add up to: 1595 units. Now take into account a 10% survival rate. That leaves a total of 160 1961 Stylesides remaining today.
And they could be anywhere. ARAMCO bought 100's of 1959 and 1960 F100 4X4 Stylesides, so mebbe these 1961 Styleside 4X4's went to ARAMCO, also.
ARAMCO is short for the Arabian and American Oil Company. ARAMCO bought Ford trucks beginning in the 1920's.

I would assume they were split bed conventional styleside in long bed configuration. I have yet to meet a factory 4x4 short bed style side prior to the 66 F100. I have yet to meet a factory 4x4 uni. I have seen claimed ones but they were M/H or NAPCO conversions after the fact. All had a F10 designation in VIN.
Had one guy claimed his 64 F100 was a factory original 4x4 complete with a married 72 T case and 76 3/4 ton axles . Had it since new.......
