I am going to be putting a new valve cover gasket on my truck and I thought it wouldn't hurt to try and clean the inside of the upper intake is there any safe cleaner I can use on it and is there any thing else worth doing while it is apart.

If it is aluminum you have to be careful of any type of cleaners you use on it. Lots of them can cause damage to it. Glass bead blasting is the only way I know of, but you would have to take it off to do it.
