Have a stroked 460 I am getting ready to transplant into my '79 F100 and I'm not sure what transmission to go with. I am building up a C6 with TCI HiPo kit and adding a 7" tailshaft and housing but I wonder if this is the right choice in view of the torque I'll be running (+550LBFT). I know Ford put a cast iron tail shaft on police interceptor C6's but try to find one! As usual all the beefed up parts (aftermarket) out there seem to be for chevy turbohydromatic trans. I don't want to break the bank with some exotic 10,000 dollar trans as this is a daily driver but it sure would be nice if someone out there made aftermarket housings for us ford guys! Anyone out there know of any C6,C4,AOD, aftermarket tailhousings or trans cases please drop me a line.
Thx, Dan H.
A stock c6 should hold up fine with a fresh rebuild on it. you should be able to expect an easy 75k miles out of it or better. They'll hold up in excess of 275k against stock motors easy.
15 second 1979 f-100 - 302, 3.70's, Powertrax Locker, MSD box, 2300 stall, headers, 4bbl. SOON to be 14 second 79.
I would rather PUSH a Ford than drive a Chevy!
not sure on the cost there but they can build you a C6 that will hold up to that kind of abuse. if not then just get a quality rebuild on a C6, it will do like 15sec79 says and hold 75+ K miles, and maybe more if you add to the capacity and get a quality cooler...but its all up to how much $$$ you want to invest in a trans....
