Hi everyone just a quick question, my dash lights don't work and I'm not sure why. Can anyone give me a way to check them or a reason as why they might not be working ?? It looks like all my fuses are good although I didn't physically check each one, they appear to be good. Could the light switch be bad???
To remove the headlamp switch from the dash, you first have to remove the headlamp switch **** and shaft. Remove battery cable for safety. Pull **** all the way out. Reach under the dash to where switch is located. On the bottom of the switch is a button = press it in = pull off **** and shaft. Next remove the nut holding the switch to the dash. You do not have to press the button to re-install the **** and shaft, just push it back in.

Not an authority but if all the lights are out, first check, as John indicated, to make sure reostat is working; the other would be to make sure the instrument cluster, or dash, and instrument lights are well grounded, and then as number's mentioned, switch likely needs to be replaced.
switch is rotated all the way to left, as a matter of fact I rotated the switch a couple of times and the truck acted like it want to die, it kind of "stammered" a bit if you know what I mean. Hey Numbers is the switch readily available at the local parts store ??

LOL, well I have my own stock of parts and never visit parts stores, but with either Motorcraft number I listed, NAPA can cross it to the brand they sell.
I have the same problem, I also read somewhere that a later model headlight switch will leave the running lights on also, anyone know what year that would be? Thanks!
I want to keep my truck pretty much stock, I like it the way it is. I have it in the shop having the motor rebuilt right now. Originally I was just having the lifters and the heads done but when it was torn down the engine was full of sludge from sitting for years and the previouse owner had run kerosene through it thinking it might quite the lifter. Turned out the lifter was bad, anyway in a couple of weeks I should have a brand new 40 year old truck sitting in my driveway.
I just ran into the same problem with my dash lights , and believe it or not, i jumped the small light fuse with a wide screwdriver to see if it was bad and not only did they come on, they stayed on, i guess i lil rust in the fuse box caused a bad connection.
Headlight switches are the same 61-64, dash light (I think) spade terminal cocked 30-45 degrees compared to the rest. After 65 or 66, all of the terminals are parallel and will not work for anything previous unless you change the headlight connector/fuse block out. If you have a lot of aftermarket gauge lights ghetto spliced to the harness that will also add to the strain of the 20 guage wire and short or burn it up at the headlight switch so look for that as well.
