Trucks, Bronco's and Econolines: 11 digit VIN's were used thru 1980. 17 digits 1981 to now.
F14HLBX5529
F14 = 1977/79 F150 4X4 Pickup
H = 351M 2V
L = Michigan Truck Assembly Plant
BX5529 = 1978
====================
F140 = 1976/79 F150 4X4 Pickup / 6050 GVWR
>>> There's been an ongoing discussion here on FTE about an F130 pickup, which has no designation in the parts catalogs.
If this truck IS real, it may have been built for a Ford family member.
DS0 73 = This truck was ordered through the Salt Lake City Ford District Sales Zone. I doubt a Ford "Bigwig" would have ordered it, especially thru a Sales Zone Office.
If this truck was factory, the DSO should be 6 digits. The first two refer to the sales zone, the last 4 are for the Ford Domestic Special Order invoice number.

Cletus the VIN # was only 11 digits long on 79 and earlier F-series and Bronco's.
Western Star, it was'nt factory. Ford never made a convertible F-series pickup.

1980 Trucks, Bronco's and Econolines still had an 11 digit VIN. If you are going by the lmc decoder, it's incorrect.
Passenger cars have a 17 digit VIN in 1980, trucks in 1981.

Does anyone find it odd that a "factory" convertible would have cloth seats?
Cloth seats in ragtops are fairly common today. Back then, it wasn't done.
Seller claims to have two build sheets, so why didn't he post them so they could be clearly read?

actual it's specifics Bill.
You know the F14 is the designate code for an F150 4x4
F140 is the GVWR Body code for this same truck.
Therefore, It Isn't an F-140 as you can't use the F140 Body GVWR code as a Truck Model
So, No, There isn't an F-140 otherwise it would show up listed here.
That's my story and I'm sticking with it

Your story huh, well heck....you're absolutly right. I underlined
Model Codes above, and that's all the F140 represents. A F150 4X4 with a GVWR of 6050 lbs.
Now, what the heck is an F130? Did anyone ever find out?

An F-130 is a 4 wheel drive farm tractor built in the mid to late ninetys by Fiat of Britian. Rather popular in Europe.

His response to my question.
com
Item: Ford : F-150 (320138625277)
This message was sent while the listing was active.
brandiemae is the Seller.
PLEASE LET ME CLARIFY MYSELF, I NEVER SAID IT LEFT THE ASSEMBLY LINE THIS WAY. I SAID FORD OFFERED THIS OPTION, AND THEY DID.
IT WAS ORDERED FROM THE DEALERSHIP AS A CONVERTABLE, WHEN IT ARRIVED NEW AT THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS A CONVERTABLE.
THE FORD FACTORY BUILD SHEET CLEARLY SHOWS IT BEING SENT TO DYNAMIC CONVERSIONS TO PROVIDE THIS OPTION.
I'AM NOT TRYING TO BE MISSLEADING. IT REALLY IS A NEAT TRUCK!!!!!!
