still no spark...
I am working on 77 with a 4.9 in it. I have been fighting to get spark from it since day one! The previous owner did some work replaceing electrical items. I thought it was the ignition switch, so I just replaced that and no go. I am still getting power to my coil when the key is off. I am going to replace the whole distributer tomorrow after work. Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions? Can I test the coil somehow to make sure it is working??

You can put a testlight or voltmeter between the negative or "tach" of the coil, and the engine block, and then crank the engine. The voltmeter should jump up and down or the testlight should flicker on and off. This will tell you the coil is turning on and off, and you should get spark.
One thing you can check is take the dist cap off, and crank the engine to make sure the rotor is going around. Sometimes the sixes strip the timing gear.
