O2 sensor replacement how to?

My gas mileage has been failing miserably as of late and I also have a check engine light on. Codes indicate O2 sensor failure.

Ive replace the front sensor on the drivers side and now have to get to the Passenger side front one. According to a shop I called, it calls for .08 hours. How is that? I have the darn thing all torn apart and am getting nowhere. What are the specific steps in removing this beast(sensor)? Theres gotta be some trick im not seeing. Im getting frustrated and im at a standstill with the truck in pieces. Can anyone walk me through replacing this darn sensor? Please help!!

Truck in question is a 1997 F250 Light Duty 4X4 with a 5.4 liter engine.

What is preventing you from removing it?

The front passinger side is a royal PITA. You'll need a 22mm wrench. Disconnect the sensor from the harness. I had to go in from the top and reach way back behind the engine with one hand to disconnect it.

Then get under the truck and get your 22mm wrench on the sensor. Break it free. Don't be afraid to bend some stuff out of the way. There's an open tube hanging down. I'm not sure what it's for, but I assume it's a vent. Move it if you need to. Wait untill the truck is cool and push the cat heat sheilding back and work between the cats and the shield.

If it's coming out pretty easy, you can take it out by hand through the passinger side wheel well.

Putting the new one in is pretty much the reverse of the removal.

Never Again!!!

Got done with the O2 sensor on the Passengers side and agreed it is a royal PITA. I cant see how the book only calls for .8 hours. I ended massaging it out by moving the inner plastic wheel well out of the way, cutting the wires off the sensor, and putting the box end of a 7/8 inch wrench on it. Get this!! The sensor was only finger tight. ARGGGHHH. All this PITA for that? I managed ok and it worked out,but NEVER AGAIN!!!!
